Share the Joy ! FUNdraiser and Community Dance for DESC

Share the Joy again!  We're celebrating big birthdays that end in "0" in the spirit of the Beloved Community on Sunday March 23 , with a fundraiser for DESC combined with a fabulous community dance! We'll have live music by the sizzling Bill Joe Show, a big, smooth wooden dance floor at the Kenmore Community Club, and a room full of great friends groovin' in support of ending homelessness.

Details:
Sunday February 23 , 2020  4 - 7 pm  * $10 requested donation + a tip for the band
or donate online in advance and get in free!
7304 NE 175th St, Kenmore WA  98028

Want to join me in supporting this good cause? We're raising money for DESC and your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500. Every little bit helps, on our way to a goal of $3,000. Thank you for your support. I've included information about DESC below.

You can also give at the dance, if you prefer. All the expenses are covered, so every dollar goes straight to DESC! Need a gift suggestion? Make a donation in honor of a loved one, to help our homeless sisters and brothers find shelter and a real chance for a better life.

DESC works to end the homelessness of vulnerable people, particularly those with serious mental and addictive illnesses. Through partnerships and an integrated array of comprehensive services, treatment and housing, we give people the opportunity to reach their highest potential. At DESC, uncommon efforts produce uncommon results that eliminate homelessness, one person at a time.

"There is another element that must be present in our struggle that then makes our resistance and nonviolence truly meaningful. That element is reconciliation. Our ultimate end must be the creation of the beloved community."

The Billy Joe Show at the Swedish Club in Seattle * Friday March 23rd 7:30 - 10:30 Dance Joy !

  • The Billy Joe Show at the Swedish Club!

    Suggested donation $10
    Public
     · Hosted by Delicious Dance
    Friday, March 23 at 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM

    Swedish Club
    1920 Dexter Ave N, Seattle, Washington 98109

Swing to the rockabilly groove of the Billy Joe Show! Fans    of the Dusty 45's know we're in for a joy fest, PLUS Mark and I are celebrating paying off our house - so you're invited to donate $10 for the band AND if you like, also help us raise money for DESC, the Downtown Emergency Services Center. These folks provide housing and help for our homeless brothers and sisters. We're raising funds specifically for their "Move-in" funds, providing household needs for previously homeless folks as they move into secure housing.
Thanks for being part of this beautiful, generous dance community !

This event is all ages. There will also be a separate bar area.

Note: there'll be plenty of room to dance - we'll be upstairs at the Swedish, with a fabulous view of Lake Union.  Most of the floor has a smooth, low pile carpet, plus there'll be a small wooded dance floor. Bring your smoothest dance shoes.

Sure hope to see you there!  xox Margot and Mark

Top 5 reasons for learning to swing dance

The top 5 reasons to learn Swing dance?
5. It's great exercise
4. You'll make new friends
3. Dancing builds new synapses in your brain, refreshing your body / brain connection
2. It increases your self confidence
1. For the joy of it! Joy and pure happiness contribute to our well being in every possible way:

building healthy communities, invigorating physical health in every cell of our bodies, and enlivening
us as evolving spiritual beings - wow!  This last one may be harder to prove; we believe it's certainly
true, and many of the social dancers you'll meet will agree.

The North Fork Valley revels in the Dusty 45s performance:
Dawn Reeder, a big Paonia fan of the band says “I loved that show they did at the Blue Sage in January, because every song was danceable, and everyone had room to dance. Those musicians are world class performers. And so much complex sound coming from 4 guys, I couldn't believe it!
They were super engaged with the audience, very friendly and funny.
They seemed to play harder the harder we danced (and)
it seemed like nobody wanted to leave at the end of the dance, including the band!
I loved the evening. The best and funnest live music that I've seen in Paonia in the 14 years that I've lived here. Thank you so much for bringing them back. I can't wait!”

And here's a sample of their music. Memorial Hall, Friday May 2nd, come on out and dance!

Tantalizing Tango ! This week at the Blue Sage
Thursday Tango classes continue with Danica, a great opportunity to learn this unique, sensual dance form
6 - 8 pm Upstairs in the Blue Sage apartment.
Argentine tango with classic form, flavor and music.  $10 per 2 hour class. The focus of the lessons will be our own bodies and where and how we are in them, then bring that together with a partner to move together. Understanding and appreciating the richness of tango music will also be prominent. The lesson will be an hour and a half with half an hour of music and an open question/help time.
Danica began tango in 2005 and was so impelled by it that she dedicated herself to it full time from the first lesson on. She relocated to Berlin, where she danced every night, took lessons and quickly began teaching. After a few years she felt ready to relocate to Buenos Aires, where she danced her heart out but didn't stay. Now she's living in Hotchkiss and thrilled to help develop a tango community in the North Fork! Please contact her with any questions or for private lessons at danicatango@gmail.com   Tango is an amazing mirror of life, and a never ending development. We look forward to sharing the experience on Thursdays!
